Behind the Calypso Collection: Painting With Chasing Rivers

The CALYPSO collection has such a special place in my heart, and it began in the most natural, joyful way — through a collaboration with Chasing Rivers in Australia. When Raquel first shared her idea for a mermaid-themed print, surrounded by tropical hibiscus and warm, summery tones, I instantly knew it was going to be magic.

I could already picture the softness, the flow, and that dreamy, ocean-soaked feeling her brand captures so well.

I started with loose, watery layers of acrylic, letting the colours move across the paper the same way the tide moves around your feet. Everything about this artwork was designed to feel fluid — swirling hair, gentle curves, soft colours blending into each other.

The mermaids themselves came together almost intuitively. I wanted them to look as though they were drifting underwater, weightless and peaceful, glowing slightly with soft peach and pink light.

This collaboration blends everything I love — painting, storytelling, softness, movement, and the ocean. It also connects two creative worlds on opposite sides of the globe: my little studio in Spain and Chasing Rivers’ beautiful Australian coastal spirit.
