How to make a tassel for your painting
I've enjoyed so much lately making little extras. For one of my series Indian Summer I made a wall hanging to go with each artwork. Today I want to show you how to make a tassel that you can use with a painting or print, as a keyring or even to decorate a gift.
To start we will need:
- Some macrame cord
- A little keychain ring
- Some extra thread
- Beads
- A wire brush

I wanted to make something quite neutral today but you can mix up the colours and make a tassel that really stands out. The beauty is you can use these for so many different things.
STEPS
- Cut the cord into 4 pieces of approx 50cm
- Tie tight around the middle with the extra cord
- Start brushing the cord with the wire brush so that the threads separate, eventually putting both sides together to create one brushed tassel
- Tie some more of the extra cord around the top of the tassel to make a small bobble with about 50cm of thread
- Wrap this around as many times as you like and secure a knot with the excess of string
- Add beads to the original bit of thread that we used to tie the middle of the tassel. You can add as many or as little as you like.
- The last step is to tie the keychain and chop the excess thread. The it's all ready to hang on your favourite painting, basket or even your Christmas tree.
Here I have attached the tassel to the frame of the Balm painting with a small eyelet screw to complete a boho look. The possibilities are endless.
